Are optional SATs still a useful tool?

Whilst not published for a number of years, Optional SATs are still a helpful and useful tool.

When do the SATs take place?

Both types of SATs papers are taken by their respective year groups in May, after the Easter holidays. “SATs week” is when all KS2 SATs tests take place across the UK. For KS1 SATs, schools are granted the flexibility of administering them at a time that’s convenient to them throughout the whole of May 2022.

Should I take the optional SATs papers for KS2?

If they are used with the knowledge that the new syllabus and new format KS2 tests will be slightly more advanced then they pose no problems. Children who do very well in these optional SATS papers will be well along the road to doing very well in their KS2 SATS.
